As a person with multiple disabilities, I know firsthand the importance of centering the perspectives of people with disabilities ourselves in all policy conversations, in conversation with other stakeholders such as family members and professionals.
But experience and expertise are also essential in order to craft policy that is achievable, enforceable, and outcome-driven. A lawyer by training, I have over 15 years of experience in disability law and policy, including senior roles at the Autistic Self Advocacy Network and Quality Trust for Individuals with Disabilities.
I take a practical perspective on policy advocacy. My focus on what it will take to make concrete and positive changes in the lives of people with disabilities. I can help people at all stages of policy advocacy, including:
Translating a broad policy goal into a concrete legislative or regulatory proposal
Workshopping policy proposals to ensure that it meets the needs of people with disabilities
Developing advocacy strategies
Helping to develop coalition partners and grassroots strategies
Policy research
Developing advocacy materials such as position papers, talking points, and one-pagers directed at both policy professionals and community members
Translating policy materials into plain language
I also offer educational trainings on a range of topics, including:
Supported decision-making
Community integration
Fighting discrimination against people with disabilities in healthcare settings
Understanding disability community culture
I have a sliding scale for consultation and fees:
