Legal Director, 2022-2024. Led the legal and policy operations of a 501(c)(3) nonprofit tasked with advocacy for people with intellectual and developmental disabilities in D.C. Supervised and provided legal services provision to people with disabilities seeking alternatives to guardianship; managed contract to provide legal services to people with disabilities in need of assistance with benefits advocacy; participated in local advocacy coalitions; managed National Resource Center for Supported Decision-Making and Jenny Hatch Justice Project.
Legal Director, 2013-2022. Led legal and public policy division of the nation’s leading advocacy organization by and for people with developmental disabilities. Responsibilities included developing official recommendations on prospective legislation and regulation; development of materials for advocates to improve healthcare for people with intellectual and developmental disabilities; publication of policy updates and analysis; participation in litigation, administrative enforcement, and amicus efforts on matters with the potential for widespread impact on autistic community; and outreach to organizational and grassroots advocacy community on matters of public importance.
Associate, 2012-2013. Represented plaintiffs and defendants in large-scale structured finance and patent litigation in both federal court and International Trade Commission.
Legal Fellow, 2010–2012. Represented individuals with psychiatric disabilities and their families in class actions, federal administrative complaints, and matters promoting access to treatment, community integration, education of students with mental disabilities, and access to employment and professional licensure. Participated on Consortium of Citizens with Disabilities task force on employment. Reviewed pending legislation, wrote policy memoranda, and advised policy group on matters of statutory interpretation.
